Leadership Transition at Detroit Cristo Rey

14 April 2025

Dear Detroit Cristo Rey Community,

Thank you for being part of the Detroit Cristo Rey High School family. Your trust, support, and partnership are invaluable as we work together to provide the best education and opportunities for our students.

I’d like to share with you news of a leadership transition.

After careful reflection, Christopher Lynch has decided to retire as school president at the end of this school year, on June 13.

Our Board of Trustees is launching a search immediately for a successor to lead our proud school into the future. During these especially busy final weeks of the academic term, I will serve as interim school president. Additionally, other trustees will be onsite to assist supporting our administration, faculty and staff.

We are doing great things and those great things will continue. Our focus on academic excellence is unwavering. We expect to have exciting announcements in coming months about new partnerships that create an environment where our students can thrive.

Be sure to join us at our annual Gala, Rey of Light, on May 16. It will be an opportunity for celebration and recognition of our students as well as our outgoing president, staff, parents and work-study partners.

Together, let us ask our God to continue to bless our efforts to sustain and enhance Detroit Cristo Rey High School.

Sincerely,

 Joaquin Nuño-Whelan

Board Chair

Message from
Chris Lynch

With a heart full of gratitude, I am retiring from Detroit Cristo Rey High School. For nearly four years I have been blessed to be part of this wonderful community and impactful movement. Transitioning from a long career in automotive to nonprofit education during the pandemic was the hardest job I have ever loved! Seeing firsthand the transformative power of education as our youth pursue their dreams has given me so much hope for the future. I have seen our students grow in knowledge, confidence, and faith, supported by loving parents and tireless faculty and staff. Their dedication to academic excellence and college success is truly inspirational and life changing.

I am deeply grateful to our Corporate Work Study partners, generous donors, supporters, and the Board of Trustees. Special thanks to our religious sponsors – the IHM Sisters, Basilian Fathers, and the Cristo Rey Network – whose foundation of justice, service, and compassion has enriched my life.

In this next chapter, I look forward to more time with family, focusing on health, traveling, and volunteering that continues to promote Catholic social teachings. The enduring spirit of Detroit Cristo Rey will always be with me.

Please continue to “plant the seeds that one day will grow”!

¡Viva Cristo Rey!

Chris
