Graduation Requirements
Your Checklist for Success
- 35 Credit Minimum: Students at Detroit Cristo Rey High School must earn a minimum of 35 academic credits to graduate. A credit is defined as a full-year course, meeting the equivalent of four days a week for 50 minutes. Seniors that fail any class (during senior year) and/or have not fulfilled their credit requirements will not be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony. Credit requirements break out as follows:
- Theology – 4 Credits
- English – 5 Credits
- Mathematics – 4 Credits
- Social Studies – 3 Credits
- World Language – 3 Credits
- Science – 4 Credits
- Earned College Credits – 1.5 (Dual Enrollment U of D Mercy)
- Physical Education & Health – 1 Credit
- Technology – 0.5 Credit
- Fine Arts – 0.5 Credit
- College Readiness – 3 Credits
- Corporate Work Study Program – 4 Credits
- Electives – 3.5 Credits
Corporate Work Study Program: Successful completion of Corporate Work Study (CWSP) is required of every student each school year in order to earn one credit per year and remain a student at Detroit Cristo Rey.
Community Service: Each student must complete a total of 40 hours of community service (over four years of high school) in order to graduate.
- Eligibility: Students who owe tuition, lost books, missed workdays, have late fees, detentions, or other such requirements will not participate in prom or graduation. They will not receive a report card, transcript or diploma until all requirements are met. Any student who presents disciplinary problems at the end of the year may not be permitted to participate in graduation.
- Valedictorian Requirements: To be considered for the honor of being the class valedictorian, a student must have completed a minimum of three complete years at Detroit Cristo Rey. She/he must have the top GPA in the senior class.
