Corporate Work Study Program

The Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP) is a vital component of a student's education at Detroit Cristo Rey High School.  The program provides opportunities for our students throughout metropolitan Detroit - a real-life work experience for every student.  As a Corporate Work Study partner, you are making an investment in our school and in our students; the results can transform a community. 

Young men and women have access to a high quality college preparatory Catholic education in the city of Detroit. A direct benefit of this business experience for our students is that they build the knowledge, skills and self-confidence to be successful in higher education, in the workplace and in life.  In return our students deliver meaningful work to corporate sponsors who are demonstrating their commitment to the community.

One full-time, entry-level job supports a team of four students.  Detroit Cristo Rey High School handles all employment issues such as Workers’ Compensation, Social Security, Medicare and tax withholding.  The money that is paid to the students is used to cover the greater portion of the cost of their education.

By combining two common business concepts, we achieve uncommon results.

Job Sharing + Employee Leasing = Education

Each student works one full day a week (and an extra day every four weeks) to help offset approximately 70% of her/his educational costs.  The remaining four days the student attends classes.  The school administers the program as well as providing training and regular communication with the employer regarding the students’ work.

Detroit Cristo Rey High School provides transportation to and from the work site. 

Twenty-one corporations have committed to providing student jobs for the first year.  We are in need of additional job sponsors and would appreciate the opportunity to talk with you about the program in more detail in order to help you determine whether the program would be a good fit for you and your company.
