Summertime at Detroit Cristo Rey

Many times, people will ask if the school is open during the summer. The answer is YES! There has been a lot going on since our Closing Mass on June 15. Here are just a few of the activities.

A four week summer school started for students who needed additional instruction the Monday after school ended. I am pleased that the number of students required to attend the summer session has decreased this year. I like our students – but I prefer them not to be in school over the summer.

Ms. Draughn, our Admissions Director is hard at work finalizing our Class of 2016. We hope to have 125 new students in the school when we start in August. It seems just about every day she brings a prospective student and family to the school for a tour. If you know of a student who would benefit from a Detroit Cristo Rey education, please put them in touch with Ms. Draughn.

The CWSP is still looking for new corporate sponsors for the upcoming year. These sponsors are the backbone of the Cristo Rey model and as we continue to grow, we need more sponsors. I am always incredibly grateful to the support these sponsors provide our students and school. I could not help but notice the many sponsors in attendance at the Graduation. They were as proud of their students as anyone in the church!

Also, Mr. Brinson is working around the clock to get the other half of the building prepared for the opening of the school year. We received the keys to the building last week and there is a lot to do. We will be looking for painting and clean up volunteers within the month – stay tuned.

Finally, we received some more encouraging student test data recently. I will be giving you an update shortly. You can be sure that Mrs. Rowe and the academic team are relentless in their desire to prepare each student for success in college. The results confirm that we are on the right track.

Thank you for your support!
