As all devoted readers of my blog know, the Class of 2013 took the ACT earlier in the month. Today, Mrs. Rowe shared the results with me. I am thrilled!! Our students showed real progress by almost any measure.
As freshmen, these 40 members of the Class of 2013 took the EXPLORE test and that projected they would score a composite ACT of 15.1. As sophomores, they took the PLAN, the next test in the sequence and it projected that they would score a composite of 15.8. Well, when the students took the test, the class averaged a 17.7 – a 12% improvement. As I mentioned, I am very pleased with that level of progress. Another comparison that can be made is to our current senior class. When they took the ACT last fall, they scored a composite of 16.2. Still – I know we can do better and I hope when they retake the test in the Fall, our average composite will exceed 19.
For me, this improvement is just more validation of the wonderful work done by Mrs. Rowe, Mrs. Valgoi and the entire academic team. I can’t tell everyone how grateful I am for the work our teachers do everyday in the classroom. They are making a difference for our students.
